The one critique of imperialism that Joseph Conrad makes in the Heart of Darkness is that the colonists are ineffective at achieving their goals.

Explanation:

In Joseph Conrad’s short novel ‘Heart of Darkness’ Conrad describes the white man’s quest to Africa to colonies it and establish a strong hold of Imperialism. He sets before him many goals of fulfillment. But at the end the colonists realize that they are ineffective at achieving their goals.

This Conrad explains through the character of Kurtz. Kurtz is a white man with a lot of promises. He sets out to Africa-the heart of darkness, to civilize the barbaric savages there. But at the end he is caught in the mesh of greed and African paganism and does not want to return home to his white man’s city or to his white fiancee.

He rather prefers to live with an African woman back in Africa, to be worshiped as a God, a rich ivory merchant. Thus Kurtz stands as the synecdoche for the colonists who are ineffective at achieving their goals.

I need an essay about, “What does it mean to be free”
Alik [6]

Answer:

To be free means that no one can restrict you to say whatever you think, say, or do.

To be free to me is to be cared for, humanized, trusted, guided, driven by the good, named, self-regulated, charitable, enlightened, reasonable, self-directed, believed, incalculable, indispensable, open, advised, by equals who have neither the right nor wisdom nor virtue to command and control the course of our lives. In conclusion keep in mind that no one has total freedom, just the freedom to do what they like is what most use the word free for.

How do Elisa feeling and actions toward the stranger change over the course of her conversation with him ?
ioda

It can be inferred that Elisa feeling and actions toward the stranger change over the course of her conversation with him in that "she resists him at first but then warms up and begins to feel a connection with him." (Option D)

What is the explanation for the above assertion?

The narrative begins with a panoramic view of the Salinas Valley in winter, shrouded in mist.

The focus finally rests on Elisa Allen, who is hacking off spent stems of chrysanthemums in the garden on her better half's property.

Elisa is thirty-five years old, lean and strong, and she tackles her gardening with boundless enthusiasm.

Henry, her significant other, appears from across the yard, where he had been coordinating the sale of the thirty cows.
