Find the slope and y intercept

Mathematics
1 answer:

Intercept=\frac{x1-x2}{2} , \frac{y1=y2}{2}
x1=-1    x2=1
y1=5     y2=11

\frac{-1-1}{2}, \frac{5-11}{2}
\frac{-2}{2}, \frac{-6}{2}
=-1,-3

Slope=\frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}
=\frac{11-5}{1-(-1)}
=\frac{6}{2}
=3

Write the equation of the line that passes though (-3,5) and (2,10) in slope intercept form
beks73 [17]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

Calculate m using the slope formula

m = (y₂ - y₁ ) / (x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 3, 5) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (2, 10)

m = \frac{10-5}{2+3} = \frac{5}{7}, hence

y = \frac{5}{7} x + c ← is the partial equation of the line

To find c substitute either of the 2 points into the partial equation

Using (2, 10), then

10 = \frac{10}{7} + c ⇒ c = 10 - \frac{10}{7} = \frac{60}{7}

y = \frac{5}{7} x + \frac{60}{7} ← in slope- intercept form
