A small boy let go of his mom’s hand, and his brand new shoes squeaked across the floor as he found the desk with his name carefully printed on a tag. The kindly teacher smiled and waited for last hugs and goodbyes before she began her first lesson.

It shows that it is highly accepted in society to put others down if it means bringing yourself up. Ralph is not a true friend to Piggy because he used him, betrayed him, and laughed at him.
