The immediate cause of the Sepoy Rebellion were British social reforms, harsh land taxes and heavy skepticism of about the benefits of having the British ruling India in the first place. It was an uprising that attempted to put Bahadur Shah Zafar as emporer of India instead of having the British East India Company ruling.
