Global warming is the name given to the gradual warming up of the Earth’s surface. Global warming is happening all around us and has been for hundreds of years. It’s an environmental problem that scientists are rapidly trying to fix, as it will have a great impact on future generations. Deforestation also contributes towards global warming. Trees absorb carbon from the ground and, if they’re cut down, this is released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas). Burning fossil fuels (such as oil and coal) increases the number of greenhouse gases and contributes towards global warming.
