Many of the aspects from his great society ideas were influenced by what he witnessed in his own life as a young man. He was a new dealer, that is, he grew up during the New Deal programs and he could understand how governments could introduce new programs and reinforce federal power in order to help people who were in need or were disenfranchised.

His political experience enabled him to enforce these new ideas and programs since he worked for people like Kennedy before and he knew what hardships Kennedy was going through with implementation of his programs so he knew how it could be done in a successful way from previous experience at being unsuccessful at many things.
