The Constitution created a government structure known as a Constitutional republic.
A constitutional republic refers to when a country has a set of national laws found within a constitution. Along with this, a constitutional republic allows for citizen participation in the government (through voting) and a system where there is a separation of powers between different branches in the government. In this case, the US has this, as we have the US Constitution which outlines the power of the legislative, executive, and judicial branch.

the Southern states felt that their rights to own slaves would be jeopardized and
