Primarily the Economy through the European countries had been dramatically altered because of the new territories, and demographics of the new nations.
Germany itself faced mass economic stress due to the Treaty of Versailles.

I think that it was offensive to them to say that it FELL since they are royal in their own ways and they probably like it as if it were said to be : "fallen"?
