Baker v. Carr was one of the most important cases in the United States. It was the Supreme Court case that defined that redistricting issues present justiciable questions, therefore enabling federal courts to intercede and to determine the ruling of redistricting cases. The defendants argued that redistricting of legislative districts was a mere "political issue", but they were not successful.
