After Arsat and his brother run away with Diamelen, they were chased by Rajah's men for Diamelen was a servant of the Rajah's wife. Arsat's brother had a plan to hold the men off while the couple run through the forest. His brother gave them time to run and then plan to catch up with them later. But when the enemies were attacking Arsat's brother, Arsat didn't turn back and helped him. They continue to paddle away leaving him to die. So, the result f the two brothers running away was the death of Arsat's brother because of Arsat's betrayal and cowardice.

- Students once copied long lists of proverbs. They memorized them.

8. Look for proverbs online, the library has dictionaries of proverbs.

- Look for proverbs online. The library has dictionaries of proverbs.

Explanation:

To answer the first exercise, all we need to do is look for the verb that agrees with the subject and that, and the same time, makes sense with the general context. For instance, if we had answered "A proverb contain simple and colorful language," we would have been wrong due to lack of subject-verb agreement (proverb is singular, but contain is plural).

As for the second activity, we need to correct run-on sentences, which are sentences where two independent clauses were joined incorrectly. For numbers 5 and 6, the sentences received a coordinating conjunction, which transformed them into compound sentences. Numbers 7 and 8 were punctuated in a way that separated the different clauses.

Alenkasestr [34]

To support his purpose, Douglass includes words such as "abuse," "barbarity" and "shameless" in this passage of his speech, as explained below.

What is Douglass' purpose?

In his speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July," Frederick Douglass has the purpose to lay bare the injustices and inequality in the United States.

In the particular passage we are analyzing here, Douglass accuses the country of being unrivaled when it comes to all the unfairness with which African Americans are treated. To support that, he uses words such as "abuse," "barbarity" and "shameless", which convey his disgust for the actions and attitude of the privileged classes.

With the information above in mind, we can say that Douglass uses the words "abuse," "barbarity" and "shameless" to support his purpose.

The answer choices for this question are the following:

 • "search," "roam," and "found"
 • "monarchies," "reigns," and "nation"
