79

note the differences in the terms are

5, 8, 11, 17 are not constant, check the second differences, that is the difference between each term in the first differences.

the second differences are 3, 3, 3 are constant

each first difference increases by + 3

Thus each first difference will be 5, 8, 11, 17, (20), (23), ....

Hence the term after 59 is 59 + 20 = 79 then 79 + 23 = 102

Find M<br>a)21<br>b)32<br>c)40<br>d)63<br><br>Step by step please
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

  a)  21

Step-by-step explanation:

If the columns are labeled a, b, c, d left to right, it appears that we have ...

  \sqrt{a}\times(b-c)=d\\\\\sqrt{49}\times(10-7)=21

The value of M is 21.

_____

Questions like this require that you try different combinations of operations on the numbers shown to see if you can find a relationship. Here, the left column is a perfect square, so that is a clue. The difference of the numbers in the middle columns is a factor of the number in the right column -- another clue. It takes a certain amount of creative thought and familiarity with arithmetic facts. There is no "step-by-step" for a problem like this.
