Answer:

1k

Explanation:

Since the signs are different you subtract 6 and 7 which is 1 and since the biggest number is positive 7 your answer would be positive one. Because we do not know the value of k you put the k after the number 1, which leaves you with the answer 1k.

Which statement best describes the point Muir is making in the passage?
DiKsa [7]

The question is incomplete and the full version can be found online.

Answer:

  • Sequoia Trees Are Being Cut At An Alarming Rate
  • the number of mills and the amount of lumber cut
  • Muir's Experience As An Explorer

Explanation:

These questions refer to a passage from the text titled "Save the Redwoods," by John Muir.

In the passage, Muir explains that sawmills close to the Sequoia belt have been selling Big Tree lumber as redwood for many years, to warn about the Sequoia Trees being cut at an alarming rate, not to claim that Sequoia trees are located on the West Coast nor that are useful for building homes.

The detail that appeals to the reader's logic is that only a few mills produce a large amount of lumber cut, not the description of the trees nor Muir's experience as an explorer. Muir's experience as an explorer is what establishes credibility.

A beautiful parrot lived a carefree life in the jungle. She liked to listen to the humans talk, repeating what she heard. One da
Andrei [34K]

Have you ever had the wind ruffle your feathers, or hear the noises of the jungle below you, as you soar the sky? It's the most wonderful feeling. The feeling of freedom. Just free to roam the vast jungle.

But animals and bugs aren't the only ones who inhabit the jungles, humans do too. They sometimes set camp up near my resting place. During the night I love listening to the strange beings speak in their native tongue. I have learned a few words just from how long I listen to them.

I thought they were innocent beings. Just minding their own business, and traveling the jungle like me. One of the men offered me a juicy piece of papaya. Of course, not to be rude, I floated down towards the mans outstretched arm and perched myself on his wrist. I started to nibble on the fruit, happy that the man had offered it to me. But, clearly his intentions weren't the best. I saw he had a net in his other hand. I didn't process it until the net was already covering me.

I squawked in frustration and flapped my wings angerly at the man. With my claws I dug into the mans flesh and cut his arm. He yelled in rage then hit me to the ground, the net still weighing me down, keeping me from soaring the great blue sky.

I started screeching in the humans language, "Let me out!"

The men all laughed at me. I was pathetic to them, a stupid bird who had no idea how to escape. It set a fire in me. A fire called determination.

I thought one of the men came over to release me back into the jungle. I thought they were done laughing at my misery, only to learn he secured me in a cage. He tied the door shut with a thin rope for security.

Once all the men had their backs turned to me I began to nibble on the rope. It took several minutes of chewing to finally snap the rope. I clawed at the door which now was insecure.

The men turned to see me zoom out of the cage. For good measure--and a bit of mockery--I squawked, "Bye bye," as I flew into the lush forest. I laughed to myself as I watched the men yell and curse at me. But what does it matter? I was free at last.

Okay...so I might have overdone it a little, but I hope this helps you with your homework. Good luck and please don't plagiarize (you probably will anyway) lol.
