Summarize the lines spoken by the Chorus, and explain what the passage reveals about the beliefs of the ancient Greek people. CH

ORUS:
O Eros, the conqueror in every fight,
Eros, who squanders all men’s wealth,
who sleeps at night on girls’ soft cheeks,
and roams across the ocean seas
and through the shepherd’s hut—
no immortal god escapes from you,
nor any man, who lives but for a day.
And the one whom you possess goes mad.
Even in good men you twist their minds,
perveing them to their own ruin.
You provoke these men to family strife.

Eros was the Greek god of physical attraction—the son of Aphrodite. What this passage is basically is a description of Eros and his influence over man. What this says about the beliefs of Greek people is that they probably believed there was not much that could overcome the temptation of the flesh so much so that men would “squander” their wealth because of it. They believed none (immortal god nor man) could escape carnal desire because it exists everywhere—from the “open seas” to the “shephard’s hut.” They believed that even good people are prone to give in to the temptation of Eros to the point where they could be driven crazy and to the point where families could be ruined. In the Greek belief system, none were immune to the temptations of Eros.

Answer:

The lines spoken by the Chorus are depicting Eros and use figurative language to communicate his importance. This reveals the following about the beliefs of the ancient Greek people: they believed Eros, the god of physical attraction, had an ultimate influence on all of mankind. Eros tempted all, and none were spared.

gavmur [86]
You get the fullest picture of the causes and effects in a narrative when a story is narrated in the: First-person point of view. When that POV ,aka point of view, is used, pronouns such as: I, me, my, mine, and we, completely gives you the sense and feeling of experiencing the events of the story. Hope that helps.

Which detail supports this theme shared by "Kaddo's Wall" and "The Magic Prison"?
andriy [413]

Answer:

The answer is option ‘D’. He wondered who would help him. Not the people of Tendella, for he had insulted and mistreated them, and they would have nothing to do with him.

Explanation:

Both the stories written by two different writers- the former by Angeline Teo and the latter by Fanny E. Coe underline the idea that selfishness , self-love and greed lead to nothing but misery.

To be a genuine human being one must learn to give. Only then can returns be expected. As you sow , so shall you reap. The results of one’s actions are to be borne by self.

Kaddo had enough corn which he ate himself and even though he knew he could spare enough to give to the people of his town, he decided to build a wall of flour instead. When he was struck by misfortune, he knew he could not ask the town folks to help him. When he got help from a someone outside his town , instead of planting the corn , he ate all of it . Eventually, he died of hunger.

Prince Harweda was so brought up that he was occupied with ‘self’ . Selfishness was his flaw. At the age of five , his parents sought help from the fairy god-mother who made him realize the fruits of care, compassion and affection towards other beings. He ended up being a great King.

The last option sums up the theme inherent in both the stories though the characters and the plot are different. If you help others, you will be blessed too otherwise be prepared for unpleasant consequences.

What is Samuel’s point of view about Richard in "Blood in the River"?
Grace [21]

My overall impression of the book Blood on the River is that it’s a very good book. The reason I like it is because, it’s really suspenseful and it gets me really excited to keep reading. I think Elisa Carbone did a very good job of going to lots of places just to get facts so she could write an awesome book like that.

The character I can connect the most with is probably Samuel because he goes through a lot of hardships, either it being food, survival or Indian attacks. He also has to befriend someone he doesn’t trust yet.

The character that me most about life and death in the beginning and the end, was probably Captain John Smith because when he made Samuel stand on one foot, and told him that the whole colony has to be able to stand on two feet to survive.

I think the theme of the story that Elisa Carbone is trying to incorporate is bravery. I know this because on pages 78-80 it shows how Samuel knew just what to do about the situation they were in. With a lot of arrows flying around the fort, he got both the boys to go under the tent. James tried to get out but Samuel was pulling him, James started to get away but then Samuel lunged at him and grabbed him harder but James bit him and got away.

Another theme I thought was survival when he was at the Native American village how he learned how to make things using all-natural supplies. I think this because, when he was in the village he learned how to hunt and survive. The supplies he learned to make was “arrows, a bow, and a knife, then Kainta taught him how to shoot straight strait at target practice.
