3x − 12

− x + 2 < 3x − 12

subtract 2 from both sides

− x + 2 < −3x − 12

      -2             -2

−x < − 3x − 14

add 3x to both sides

−x < − 3x − 14

+3x   +3x

2x < − 14

divide both sides by 2

$\frac{2x}{2}$<$\frac{-14}{2}$

x < − 7
