Poetry has experienced a great deal of mutations and changes in the last couple of centuries. Poets like Rimbaud or Mallarmé explored new ways of expressing meaning, musicality, sense, and objectivity in unfathomable ways. This tradition in poetry that aimed at breaking with all social and linguistic conventions was taken even further during the 20th century, where poets like Samuel Beckett, during the sixties and beyond, made poetry an experiment that aligned itself with no identifiable traditions in a search for the very foundation of not only poetry, but language and meaning itself.
