Directed by John Ford and originally released in 1940, The Grapes of Wrath is an adaptation of John Steinbeck's acclaimed novel of the same name. The highlight of this film, also considered one of Ford's best works, is the creative and strong use of light. To show their characters and make the audience care about them, Ford used direct lights that highlighted the eyes, the facial expression showing preeminent wrinkles. But also, Ford used the location in his favor, compositing the wilderness and the fragility of the characters.
