Most people probably agree to this, honesty is the key to understanding how someone really feels and can keep from causing trouble.

Some reasons are because no one wants to be lied to, people want to be trusted, and when you lie that trust slips away.

And a lot of the time lying or hiding the truth is a very heavy burden that can become too much, causing people to feel pain mentally and to a certain rate physically, depending on how bad the situation is.

Although the majority agree with this you also need to consider that some people don't agree.

Sometimes telling the truth is really harsh and can discourage someone. Sometimes the truth is something no one wants to hear. Also, you can lie to protect yourself in dangerous situations.

Like if someone asks for personal information like address, or hometown, usually, you would refuse but making something up is also an option. Maybe someone asks you something personal that pushes you out of your comfort zone or gives you trauma/pain people might not want to be honest in order to protect themselves.
