$4x-6=2x-2$

You then would eliminate 6, by adding 6 to both sides

$4x=2x+4$

Then you want all of the X's on the same side, so you subtract 2x from both sides.

$2x=4$

Then to isolate the X, you divide by 2

$2=x$

The answer is x=2
