Ok so what you want to do is replace the n with whatever number is in the parenthesis next to the f
The idea being, the notation is for a "serie" or sequence.
f(n-1) simply means, "the value of the term before the current one", whilst "n" is the current term.
![\bf \begin{array}{llll} term&value\\ ------&------\\ f(1)&-3\\\\ f(\stackrel{n}{2})&4[f(\stackrel{n}{2}-1)]+3[f(\stackrel{n}{2}-1)]\\ &4[f(1)]+3[f(1)]\\ &4(-3)+3(-3)\\ &-21\\\\ f(\stackrel{n}{3})&4[f(\stackrel{n}{3}-1)]+3[f(\stackrel{n}{3}-1)]\\ &4[f(2)]+3[f(2)]\\ &4(-21)+3(-21)\\ &-147\\\\ \end{array}](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Cbf%20%5Cbegin%7Barray%7D%7Bllll%7D%0Aterm%26value%5C%5C%0A------%26------%5C%5C%0Af%281%29%26-3%5C%5C%5C%5C%0Af%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B2%7D%29%264%5Bf%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B2%7D-1%29%5D%2B3%5Bf%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B2%7D-1%29%5D%5C%5C%0A%264%5Bf%281%29%5D%2B3%5Bf%281%29%5D%5C%5C%0A%264%28-3%29%2B3%28-3%29%5C%5C%0A%26-21%5C%5C%5C%5C%0Af%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B3%7D%29%264%5Bf%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B3%7D-1%29%5D%2B3%5Bf%28%5Cstackrel%7Bn%7D%7B3%7D-1%29%5D%5C%5C%0A%264%5Bf%282%29%5D%2B3%5Bf%282%29%5D%5C%5C%0A%264%28-21%29%2B3%28-21%29%5C%5C%0A%26-147%5C%5C%5C%5C%0A%5Cend%7Barray%7D)

kx-4=9
Move -4 to the other side. Sign changes from -4 to +4
kx-4+4=9+4
kx=13
Divide by k for kx and 13
Cross out k and k = 1.
x=13/k
Answer: x=13/k
