"Lycidas" is a pastoral elegy written by John Milton in 1637. The poem was dedicated to the memory of Edward King, a close friend of Milton from Cambridge. Edward King died when his ship sank off the coast of Wales in 1637. The poem is written in English and it was extremely popular. It is believed to be one of the best lyrical poems in the English language.
