Blaise Pascal invented the first form of a mechanical calculator at the beginning of the 17th century.  An adding machine was developed in 1886 by William Seward. Eight years later, Otto Steiger added direct multiplication. In 1966, the company Texas Instruments developed the pocket calculator. Business calculators with integrated circuits were developed in 1968.
