Read the excerpt below and answer the question. All this while the Indians came skulking about them, and would sometimes show th

emselves aloof off, but when any approached near them, they would run away; and once they stole away their tools where they had been at work and were gone to dinner. But about the 16th of March, a certain Indian came boldly amongst them and spoke to them in broken English, which they could well understand but marveled at it. At length they understood by discourse with him, that he was not of these parts, but belonged to the eastern parts where some English ships came to fish, with whom he was acquainted and could name sundry of them by their names, amongst whom he had got his language. He became profitable to them in acquainting them with many things concerning the state of the country in the east parts where he lived, which was afterwards profitable unto them; as also of the people here, of their names, number and strength, of their situation and distance from this place, and who was chief amongst them. His name was Samoset. He told them also of another Indian whose name was Squanto, a native of this place, who had been in England and could speak better English than himself. Based on this excerpt, the first experiences of the early settlers with the Native Americans were _____. Select all that apply. cautious genial peaceable tense

I think genial and tense apply. I think tense applies because they were running away, scared. And genial applies because they got wealthy.

The correct answers would be option A: "Cautious" and option B: "Genial (meaning kind and/or favorable to growth), in this excerpt, the Indians would be wary of the English, they would not approach them or speak to them and would flee if the got near them, all this is a sign of being cautious. But, one Indian had the guts to approach them and he did so in a kind or afable manner, which led to profit so this was genial. Option C is incorrect because there was no peace since the Indians stole from the English and option D is also incorrect because tense implied and interaction, and the Indians and the English did not interact directly (so it couldn't be tense or otherwise).

Identify the part of speech of each root word. Then, identify the part of speech after a prefix or suffix has been added to the
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

 • Announce is a verb.

Announcer: the suffix is -er and the word announce with the addition of the suffix -er is a noun.

 • Boast is a verb.

Boastful: the suffix is -ful and the word boast with the addition of the suffix -ful is an adjective.

 • Speak is a verb.

Misspeak: the prefix is mis- and the word speak with the addition of the prefix mis- is a verb, the prefix does not change the part of speech to which this word belongs.

 • Victor is a noun.

Victorious: the suffix is -ious and the word victor with the addition of the suffix -ious is an adjective.

 • Common is an adjective.

Uncommon: the prefix is un- and the word common with the addition of the prefix un- is an adjective, the prefix does not change the part of speech to which this word belongs to.

Explanation:

Suffixes are letters that we add after the root of a word (the main part of the word) to form new ones. The addition of the Suffix can change the category of a word. For example, if the root of a word is a noun when we add a suffix it turns into an adjective, like beauty and beautiful.

Prefixes are letters that we add before the root of a word, and as well as suffixes, they can modify the part of speech of a word.

What makes us want to continually strive to create something bigger and better?
DerKrebs [107]
I believe it is our creativity and imagination that allows us to see the possibilities in the future on how to develop something perhaps quite small into something bigger and better first perhaps by getting our toe in the door as in say getting a small contract and then gradually opening the door to more opportunities.
