A pull factor is a motivating reason as to why an individual or group want to move from their current place of residence. In this case, Arican-Americans wanted to move to the North and West during Reconstruction because of job opportunities. Considering that Reconstruction immediately followed the end of the Civil War, it is easy to understand why these citizens wanted to move. The South was decimated after the Civil War thanks to several different battles and military campaigns like Sherman's March to the Sea. Along with this, the lack of industry remaining in the South made it difficult for people to find work that was not related to agriculture. This is why thousands of African-Americans will move from the South during Reconstruction.
