The first thing we need to do is to take the important information.

 The baseball team played 18 games  (=18)
 They won four games more then they lost. x+4
 They have a win to lose ratio, so the x is in half.  x/2
 the final equation would look like
       (x/2)+4=18
use pemdas to get the variable by itself.
subtract four.
18-4=14
then take that number and divide it by 2.  14/2=7
