With many people off at war, there are less people able to work in factories. During war, there is a need for certain materials to make weapons and to send food to troops. In the U.S., there was much propaganda that if you weren't rationing, then you were unpatriotic. These regulations helped fund the war and made sure that the military had needed materials.</span>

The event that led to the establishment of NASA was when the Soviets launched Sputnik 1. Sputnik 1 was launched on October 4th 1957 and in turn started the 'Space Race.' The Space Race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union for achievements in space travel and spaceflight.
