It developed when prehistoric hunters started to domesticate wild animals such as goats and sheep and learned that controlling animals gave them reliable source of hides, milk, milk products and meat.

Herders specialise in a particular type of livestock e.g Herders who herd cattle were called cowherds. They also use herding dogs to help them, these dogs are trained to respond to commands such as whistle.  

Women are responsible for dairy processing and milking. They have control over the proceeds to feed the family. Men are responsible for selling meat animals and herding.
