How did president Hoover's governing philosophy influence his efforts to conbat the great depression
AlekseyPX
President Hoover was unprepared for the scope of the depression crisis, and his limited response did not begin to help the millions of Americans in need. The steps he took were very much in keeping with his philosophy of limited government, a philosophy that many had shared with him until the upheavals of the Great Depression made it clear that a more direct government response was required. But Hoover was stubborn in his refusal to give “handouts,” as he saw direct government aid. He called for a spirit of volunteerism among America’s businesses, asking them to keep workers employed, and he exhorted the American people to tighten their belts and make do in the spirit of “rugged individualism.” While Hoover’s philosophy and his appeal to the country were very much in keeping with his character, it was not enough to keep the economy from plummeting further into economic chaos.

The steps Hoover did ultimately take were too little, too late. He created programs for putting people back to work and helping beleaguered local and state charities with aid. But the programs were small in scale and highly specific as to who could benefit, and they only touched a small percentage of those in need. As the situation worsened, the public grew increasingly unhappy with Hoover. He left office with one of the lowest approval ratings of any president in history.

Why did women such as Abigail Adams want the right to vote? Check all that apply to be recognized as equal to men to gain a fina
maw [93]

The correct answer is:

 • To be recognized as equal to men
 • To be treated as full citizens
 • To be involved in the political process.

Explanation:

Abigail Adams was the wife of President John Adams and the mother of President John Quincy, she wrote frequently to her husband because they spent several time apart, specially when Adams was in the Second Continental Congress, on her letters (published after she died) she asked her husband to remember the women. Abigail was an advocate for women rights, and believed that women should be educated and involved in the political process, because they are equal to men. Abigail Adams didn't live to see women earned the right to vote, she died in 1818, and the United States Constitution granted women the power to vote in 1919, after the Women Suffrage movement.

Following the Opium Was, what were the outcomes of the Treaty of Ninijing?
GaryK [48]

Answer:

Treaty of Nanjing, (August 29, 1842) treaty that ended the first Opium War, the first of the unequal treaties between China and foreign imperialist powers. China paid the British an indemnity, ceded the territory of Hong Kong, and agreed to establish a “fair and reasonable” tariff. British merchants, who had previously been allowed to trade only at Guangzhou (Canton), were now permitted to trade at five “treaty ports” and with whomever they pleased (see Canton system). The treaty was supplemented in 1843 by the British Supplementary Treaty of the Bogue, which allowed British citizens to be tried in British courts and granted Britain any rights in China that China might grant to other countries.
