True, New Orleans was an important factor in Thomas Jefferson's desire to purchase the Louisiana Territory from France because the United States had been seeking to gain control of New Orleans and originally only wanted to purchase New Orleans. When the rest of the territory became available the U.S. ended up purchasing the territory from France, but New Orleans was a major factor in the decision making.
