Abraham is widely regarded as the father of the Jewish nation. He is seen as the exemplar of the servant who is faithful to god in all things, and who follows all commands. The North on the other hand had started to industralise and therefore needed skilled labour who could work in the factories. They also looked down on slavery and took the lead in abolishing it.
