There were two cases of Holt v Sarver that essentially put the 8th amendment to use. The first one and the second one sound like very little progress was made after the first ruling came down. We are not sure (or I could not find any further comment) on how effective the second case ruling was. However, these two cases were models for what was used in other states to prevent cruel and unusual punishment.
