A multiparty system is where a number of political parties can participate in a national elections and have equal chances of gaining control in the government offices. 

The US is currently using the two-party system where the house of representatives is composed of the democrats and republicans.

Masses and minorities are well represented.

2.  Weaknesses of Multi-party system :

No easy government formation and coalition government.

Coalition often breaks before full term of government.
