This famous king of antiquity ruled the city of Babylon in Mesopotamia for more than 40 years. He was king from 1792 until his death in 1750 BC, which is one of the longest reigns in the history of the region. When he was in power, Babylon was a small town with no importance, but he succeeded to build a big empire. He was the king of the whole Mesopotamia.

Beyond his numerous military conquests, Hammurabi was especially famous for the legal code that he created for his people. It contained 282 articles. They were written on stone slabs and placed in a square center of Babylon. So, everyone could see them. It was revolutionary concepts for that time. Hammurabi’s Code was the earliest and most evolved text of history about rights and justice that we discovered.
