The most logical way to sequence these sentences to create a logical narrative would be as follows: sentence 1, sentence 4, sentence 2 and sentence 3.  The first sentence introduces the problem: "my stomach was in knots" and then sentence 4 further specifies the pain felt by the speaker (I could barely breathe...). Next, sentence 2 indicates that even though he was sick, he was able to perform; it introduces a contrast (despite my nerves...). Finally, sentence 3 offers the conclusion of the whole experience, that is, it expresses the result (My part certainly wasn't screechy, but I was proud of myself nonetheless).
