Polycythemia is defined an abnormal increase in the number of circulating red blood cells. It is mainly caused by a cancerous condition known as myeloproliferative disorder or due to a low supply of oxygen to body tissues usually due to living in high altitude areas and the body tries to compensate by producing more red blood cells to increase oxygen carrying capacity of the blood Normal blood count values in a male adult is 4.7 to 6.1 million cells/mcL, while in a female adult it is 4.2 to 5.4 million cell/mcL. If this blood cell count is significantly higher then these values, and remains there or continues to rise, over a given period of time, accompanied with some specific symptoms, then polycythemia is suspected.

Which of Virginia's watershed protection programs builds structures that protect areas from flooding?
Blababa [14]

Answer:

The Dam Rehabilitation Program

Explanation:

The Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000, which was well termed as the Dam Rehabilitation Program is mainly an amendment to PL-566 giving power and privilege to the Secretary of Agriculture to give aid to possessor of public dams created formerly under PL-566, PL-534, the RC&D Program and the Pilot Watershed Program.

This program was established in respect to the high levels of aging dams (greater than 11,000) esrablished across the nation from 1948 with a increasing amount that requires rehabilitation to keep up with the several importance they provide.

Dam Rehabilitation:

In Virginia, 150 dams is considered as belonging to the state’s landscape/infrastructure via the PL-566, PL-534, and Pilot Watershed programs. One care infer that, one-third of these dams requires maintenance, if not repaired, could lead to high dangers of environmental, economic, and social effects. The dams were constructed to preserve agricultural lands and small towns and regions from the endangering impacts of flooding. It also acts as a source of water supply and recreational opportunities, protecting fish and wildlife habitat, and preserving of water quality.

Some of the dams in the Dam Rehabilitation program in Virginia includesMarrowbone Creek in Henry County; Inch Branch, Robinson Hollow, Toms Branch, Mills Creek, Todd Lake, and Hearthstone Lake in Augusta County; and Royal Lake, Lake Barton, Woodglen Lake, and Huntsman Lake in Fairfax County.

The cell cycle of yeast cells grown in the nutrient-poor environment is approximately what percent of the cell cycle of yeast ce
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

Upon nutrient limitation, budding yeast will produce daughter cells less than 20% of the mother cell size. This asymmetric division may select for growth functions that are efficient over a larger range in cell sizes, such as exponential growth. In turn, efficient growth over a large size range lessens the pressure to have precise size control.

Explanation:

In wild-type cells growing in nitrogen-rich medium, the size threshold to enter mitosis is high, and the G1/S size control is cryptic because cell division produces daughter cells with a size greater than the minimum required to initiate S phase. In these conditions, G2 is long and G1 is short. However, the cell size threshold to enter mitosis is greatly reduced when wild-type cells are shifted to medium with a poor nitrogen source, such as minimal medium with proline, isoleucine, or phenylalanine. In these conditions, wild-type cells initiate mitosis at a reduced cell size, generating two daughter cells that are smaller than the critical size threshold required to progress through G1/S
