During these times, Russia did not transport any of its own troops into (except Crimea) Ukraine until February 24 of 2022. The reason for this war, Russia says, was to stop NATO expansion near the Russian border. Russia went as far as even questioning Ukraine's existence to further increase its reasoning for invading the democratic country. Russia has been bombarded with numerous sanctions from the Western World. Ukraine is still today being bombed and attacked by the Russians to protect Ukrainian sovereignty.
