In the early 1800s, it was only a few decades ago the country got independent from the Colonial powers. The economy is still agricultural and has not industrialized yet. Nearly 60 to 70 percent of the Americans were living in the non urban areas.

Conflicts were taken place between the native American tribes and the colonists so this was a dangerous time to live. Educational level of the citizens were it highly developed at this stage and the religion played an important role in the society.

Slavery was still in place and many state economies, specially those in the south were driven by the Slavery based plantation system.

However, the country was undergoing some major changes in terms of constitution, internal affairs and it's foreign policy. Anti Slavery movement began during this period as well.
