In a large urban high school, all students are assigned to a homeroom. One of those homerooms has 30 students in it, and all the

others have 27 students. In each homeroom with 27n students, three students were chosen at random to participate in a survey. In one of the homerooms with 30 students, 4 students were chosen. If the school has exactly 3000 students, how many of them took part in the survey?

If the school has 3000 students, there are
.. (3000 -30)/27 = 110
homerooms with 27 students.

Then there were 3*110 +4 = 334 participants in the survey.

A football player punts a ball. The path of the ball can be modeled by the equation y = –0.004x2 + x + 2.5, where x is the horiz
Galina-37 [17]
The answer is <span>252.5 ft

</span><span>y = –0.004x</span>²<span> + x + 2.5
Let's take y = 0 and we'll get the quadratic equation:

</span>–0.004x² + x + 2.5 = 0
The general formula for quadratic equation is:
ax² + bx + c = 0

a = -0.004
b = 1
c = 2.5

x_{1,2} = \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{ b^{2}-4ac} }{2a} =\frac{-1+/- \sqrt{ 1^{2}-4*(-0.004)*2.5} }{2*(-0.004)} = \frac{-1+/- \sqrt{1+0.04} }{-0.008} = \\ &#10;=\frac{-1+/- \sqrt{1.04} }{-0.008} = \frac{-1+/-1.02}{-0.008}

x_1=\frac{-1+1.02}{-0.008} = \frac{0.02}{-0.008} = -2.5 \\ &#10;x_2=\frac{-1-1.02}{-0.008} = \frac{2.02}{-0.008} = 252.5

Since distance cannot be negative (x1), the correct answer is x2 = 252.5 ft

Rite an algebraic expression to represent "five plus the quotient of r and 14."
hichkok12 [17]
The answer is 3) 5+r/14

Let's go segment by segment:
<span>"five plus" means addition, so we have 5 +

</span><span>"the quotient of r and 14" is the division result, so sign / must be present: 14/r
</span>
Therefore "five plus the quotient of r and 14" is 5 + 14/r

Cole has 5 times as many pencils as
Nataly [62]

Answer:

Cole has 15 pencils.

Step-by-step explanation:

First, we have the equation c + o =18, c representing cole, and o representing connor.

From there, we get 5o=c

Using substitiution, we get o=3

5(3)=15

15+3=18

Year 10 Interactive Maths - Second Edition

Problem Solving

Linear equations are often used to solve practical problems that have an unknown quantity. We use a suitable pronumeral to represent the unknown quantity, translate the information given in the problem into an equation, and then solve the equation using the skills acquired earlier in this chapter.

Example 11

If a number is increased by 8, the result is 25. Find the number.

Solution:

Let x be the number.  Increasing x by 8 gives x + 8, which we are told is 25.  Therefore, x + 8 = 25.  Subtract 8 from both sides to find x = 17.  So, the number is 17.

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope this helps!!!
