The Society of the Middle Ages was highly influenced by the Institution of the Church.

In both cities, towns and villages, the Church had a central position in daily life and even today, we can see all these old church built in the town center of European cities.

The church was not just place for spirituality but was, for many, the last resort where they can seek help in times of problems.

The religious hierarchy was strict and the local priest was both respected and revered. Local Lords, Barons and even Kings would use the religious institution in order to cement their position over a people.

For years, no King in Europe could take his throne except for the approval of the Vatican Pope, a Doctrine known as Papal Supremacy.
