Okay so first I just go to the wording of the first part, reading it again as something like  "85 is 34% of what number?" Then I translate it by putting an = for the "is", an x (times) for the "of", and a variable, w for "what number". Because it's a percent, we get rid of the % sign by writing 34/100, or .34 . Then we just have:
85=.34 x a
Divide off the .34
a=250
Now for the second part. 250 is the total number of pages, so subtract 85 to get the number of pages she hasn't read.
250-85=165
So she has more than 125 pages left.

Which is the rate of change for the interval between 2
dedylja [7]

Answer: 2 box plots. The number line goes from 0 to 20. For East Side Middle School Debate Wins, the whiskers range from 5 to 14, and the box ranges from 10 to 12. A line divides the box at 11. For West Side Middle School Debate Wins, the whiskers range from 3 to 14, and the box ranges from 8 to 12. A line divides the box at 9.

Which of these inferences about the two debate teams are true? Check all that apply.

West Side is more consistent at winning.

East Side is more consistent at winning.

East Side typically wins more debates per year than West Side.

West Side typically wins more debates per year than East Side.

These graphs do not contain enough information from which to draw inferences.

Suppose all left-handed people are excluded from a sample. What is this an example of?
Gala2k [10]

The proportion of left-handed people in the general population is about 0.1. Suppose a random sample of 225 people is observed.

1. What is the sampling distribution of the sample proportion (p-hat)? In other words, what can we say about the behavior of the different possible values of the sample proportion that we can get when we take such a sample?

(Note: normal approximation is valid because .1(225) = 22.5 and .9(225) = 202.5 are both more than 10.)

2. Since the sample proportion has a normal distribution, its values follow the Standard Deviation Rule. What interval is almost certain (probability .997) to contain the sample proportion of left-handed people?

3. In a sample of 225 people, would it be unusual to find that 40 people in the sample are left-handed?

4. Find the approximate probability of at least 27 in 225 (proportion .12) being left-handed. In other words, what is P(p-hat ? 0.12)?

Guidance: Note that 0.12 is exactly 1 standard deviation (0.02) above the mean (0.1). Now use the Standard Deviation Rule.
