This problem can be solved using the formula

D = rt

Where d is the distance

R is the speed

T is the time

Then establish the two equation

D = 50t

D = 40(t+3)

Equating the two quations

50t = 40(t+3)

T = 12 hrs he took to drive from alentown to baker

<span>D = 50x12 = 600 miles</span>

Complete the square<br> x²-8x-65=0
FromTheMoon [43]

x=-5 and x=13

Step-by-step explanation:

Given equation is:

x^2-8x-65=0

Adding 65 to both sides

x^2-8x-65+65=0+65\\x^2-8x=65

Now to decide what to add

8x = 2ab\\8x=2.x.b\\\frac{8x}{2x} = b\\b=4

So we will add (4)^2 to both sides

x^2-8x+(4)^2=65+(4)^2\\Using\ formula: (a^2-2ab+b^2)=(a-b)^2\\(x-4)^2=65+16\\(x-4)^2=81Taking\ square\ root\ on\ both\ sides\\\sqrt{(x-4)^2}=\sqrt{81}\\x-4=-9\ \ \ \ and\ x-4=9\\x=-9+4\ \ \ \ and\ \ \ x=9+4\\x=-5,\ x=13

So the solution is:

x=-5 and x=13

Penelope made note of all the bicycles and cars she could see parked or locked on acertain city block. All the cars had exactly
lesantik [10]

Given:

The number of cycles is, <em>n</em> (s) = 7.

The number of wheels in the cycle is, <em>n </em>(sw) = 2.

The number of cars is, <em>n</em> (c) = 15.

The number of wheels in the car is, <em>n</em> (cw) = 4.

The obective is to find the total number of wheels.

The total number of wheels is,

\begin{gathered} T=n(sw)\cdot n(s)+n(cw)\cdot n(c) \\ =2\cdot7+4\cdot15 \\ =14+60 \\ =74\text{ whe}els \end{gathered}

Hence, there are 74 wheels in the block.

If there are <em>x</em> bicycles and <em>y </em>cars, the equatioin will be,

\begin{gathered} T=n(sw)\cdot x+n(ce)\cdot15 \\ T=2x+4x \end{gathered}

Hence, the number of wheels for x bicycles and y cars is 2x+4x.
