Answer:

x=\frac{1+5i} {2}   and  x=\frac{1-5i} {2}

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The formula to solve a quadratic equation of the form

ax^{2} +bx+c=0

is equal to

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}} {2a}

in this problem we have

f(x)=2x^{2} -2x+13

Equate the function to zero

2x^{2} -2x+13=0

so

a=2\\b=-2\\c=13

substitute in the formula

x=\frac{-(-2)\pm\sqrt{-2^{2}-4(2)(13)}} {2(2)}

x=\frac{2\pm\sqrt{-100}} {4}

Remember that

i=\sqrt{-1}

so

x=\frac{2\pm10i} {4}

Simplify

x=\frac{1\pm5i} {2}

therefore

x=\frac{1+5i} {2}   and  x=\frac{1-5i} {2}

What's the distance between points (2,-3) and (5,1)
Sauron [17]

Answer:

d = 5

General Formulas and Concepts:

Order of Operations: BPEMDAS

Distance Formula: d = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define points</u>

(2, -3)

(5, 1)

<u>Step 2: Solve for </u><em><u>d</u></em>

  1. Substitute:                              d = \sqrt{(5-2)^2+(1-(-3))^2}
  2. Subtract:                                 d = \sqrt{(3)^2+(1-(-3))^2}
  3. Change signs:                        d = \sqrt{(3)^2+(1+3)^2}
  4. Add:                                        d = \sqrt{(3)^2+(4)^2}
  5. Exponents:                             d = \sqrt{9+16}
  6. Add:                                        d = \sqrt{25}
  7. Evaluate:                                 d = 5

If you bought a stock last year for a price of $67, and it has risen 12% since then, how much is the stock worth now, to the nea
Andreyy89

Answer:

The stock is worth $75.04 now.

Step-by-step explanation:

This question can be solved using a rule of three.

Last years' value was $67, which is 100% = 1.

Now, the value is x, and it is a rise of 12%, so it is 100+12 = 112% = 1.12.

Then

$67 - 1

$x - 1.12

x = 67*1.12 = 75.04

The stock is worth $75.04 now.
