If you see someone with a tear in their eye, what do you assume?
Does the tear indicate that they are happy, sad, or indifferent? Choose the answer that is most likely the case.
A really good way to find comparisons if you can't think of any is to google the summary of the story and character descriptions from sparknotes, or where ever. That usually helps me when writing c/c essays.
To convince the reader that what they are writing about is true and correct, and to add a deeper meaning and depth to their writing.
