<span>One similarity in the two colonies is that they were both large tobacco producing areas. Both heavily relied on the plant for a source of income and exports. One of the big differences was religious-based. Virginia was heavily-populated by Anglicans while Maryland was started as a Catholic refuge colony.</span>
