Why is carbon considered tetravalent?

Biology
1 answer:
USPshnik [31]4 years ago
6 0
All what the word tetravalent means is that carbon can form 4 chemical bonds, due to the fact that carbon has 4 unpaired valence electrons in its furthest shell, which can be used to bond to other atoms, to form linear and cyclic structures in organic compounds.

Tetravalent also tells us indirectly what the molecular geometry of the atom would be if bonded to those number of bonds, if 4, then it would be tetrahedral and have bond angles of 109.5.

I am Lyosha [343]
They get energy from alge and water-snow, water-snow is dead phytoplankton that there is so many it look like snow. Another way is fish at the top of the ocean have sunlight, sunlight gives energy. But being that sunlight doesn't reach the bottom there are types of coral that can go to 1000 degrees they get energy and warmth from the coral.

Gemiola [76]
The answer is D. Species A will have fewer phenotypes.
Alleles are alternative forms of a gene. In species A, the leaf color is controlled by two alleles, for example, P and Q. They will have three possible genotypes - PP, PQ, and QQ. Three different genotypes give maximum three phenotypes. In species B, leaf color is controlled by three alleles, for example, L, M, and N. They will have six different genotypes - LL, LM, LN, MM, MN, and NN. Six different genotypes give maximum 6 phenotypes.
