The colonies of the province were scattered over a large area and therefore each had its own characteristics. The land in the eastern groups (Palmar, Yatay, and Santa Isabel) was less heavy, and therefore easier to till, but the settlers were affected by the distance to the railroad tracks. These groups were near Colón and Concordia, on the banks of the Uruguay River, with ports that, although they were in the process of construction and improvements, could not accommodate transatlantic ships due to the shallow depth of the river.

The Lucienville neighborhood was in a good place in terms of transportation, because at its center was the Basavilbaso train station, at the junction of two major railways.
