Japans location at the convergence point of the Pacific plate the fastest moving plate, and other small plates explain the frequent and large earthquakes that Japan experiences. Because most of the Pacific plates is under the Pacific ocean these earthquakes also produce Tsunamis.

People had made false claims before that they had discovered gold, so it wasn't until December of 1848, when President James Polk backed up the discovery, that the Gold Rush began.
