I would say the correct answer is B. sentences closely connected in meaning.
I don't think A is correct because no words are pointing to a similar meaning; C is also incorrect because there is no connective between the two sentences - no conjunction to connect them; D is incorrect because there is obviously a meaningful relationship between the two sentences - otherwise they wouldn't be coherent at all.
