The overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani was manipulative and unethical. The United States over the push from economic investors in Hawaii threatened to war with her people which would kill many. If she were to step down and abdicate her thrown, then the US would spare her people death and allow them to continue living on the islands. She agreed and immediately a provisional US government was put into place led by Sanford Dole. Hawaii was annexed and became a US territory in 1898.

The campaigns that had ended up in the abolition of slavery also was better enforced in the continent.
