I think the difference between a sport and a hobby is something that is:
Competitive (sport) vs casual (hobby)
something done for others entertainment (sport) vs simply something you like to do (hobby)
A sport is something you perhaps had to try out for, unlike a hobby
A sport is often a team effort
A sport requires physical exertion
