Quest for power is the particular Korean family character trait implicitly revealed in the fable.

Throughout the pages of vanity of the rat, the author, ¬ Y.T Pyun, portrays a Korean-based family who give their 'all' to their daughter, and that accustomed them to a bond so strong that they only want the best for her. This then gives birth to the quest for power shortly before she gets married.

Further Explanation

It is seen that when Mrs. Rat was asked why she want the sun to marry their daughter, she says: ''because there is none more powerful than the sun in the world''. The sun symbolizes power and tenacity, and it is allegorical in the story. He then gives her a beautifully disappointing answer by saying ‘‘...there is one that is more powerful than I am''.

when Mr and Mrs rat got to Mr cloud, he rejected their offer and referred them to Mr wind. Mrs and Mrs rat where disappointed and left for Mr wind.

The wind referred them to the stone Buddha. The stone Buddha referred them to the rat like them. He says if rats ''burrow under'' his ''feet,'' I will fall over and land on my head.

After the entire quest, their daughter eventually married a rat.

All the effort by Mr. and Mrs. Rat to secure a powerful suitor for their daughter was futile; everything was vanity.

It is clearly seen that the story teaches all cravings are all vanity, do not try to impose, let everyone be.
